Balloons!!

Last weekend was the Llangollen balloon festival at the pavilion (I seem to be spending quite a lot of time there recently) It was quite a fun weekend with lots of balloons and festival type stuff going on, there was even some miniature balloons being flown inside the pavilion itself. I’ve put up a couple of pictures that i’ve taken with my phone but Andy was around for most of the weekend with his large amounts of expensive photo taking materials so I’ll hopefully be able to upload some extra cool pro looking photos sometime… although I’ll have to acquire them from him first.

I must admit that i’m not really in a bloggy sort of mood at the moment, I’ve not had a particularly good couple of weeks recently so I’m feeling generally a bit lethargic all round right now. A definite major cause of this is a recent server install that I have done for a client. The whole job was not too smooth due to the customer consistently interfering with the suppliers that had to be changed to suit him. Then He decided to switch broadband provider the day before implementation and finally his computer just would not connect to the network! arggg! SO… in order to keep his business running smoothly with as little system downtime as possible I worked late… very late… one day I did 18 hours in one stint! But it was all worth it in the end, or so I thought… I managed to get the job completed in only 46 hours of labour. A massive saving on the amount it could have taken and many of those were off site or out of office hours to limit disruption. I was well pleased. Until… This particular client is now refusing to pay for any more than 24 hours of labour, letting him get away with that would loose the company around £1100 that I’d earned for them. The client is discussing his bill with Matt in the other office as I type. I’ll let you know the result (it may involve changing all his passwords or even repo-ing his server)

So that’s just one of the reasons that I’m down right now, I’ll leave you with that one and not discuss the others right now(maybe not at all).

But any how, here’s the first of the balloon photos.

Well, the title says it all really. I’m pretty bored in general at the moment, I’ve been working full time for about three months now (since my summer holiday started) and even though I think my job is awesome, it is sort of loosing it’s edge. I’d quite like a holiday to relax a bit, maybe go abroad for a week or two! Unfortunately as I’m supposed to be moving out of my parents house in October I need to save uber quick (about £1000 in the next two months) so I can’t really afford to even take time off let alone pay for a holiday.

Cadets has lost a lot of appeal lately too, not because I’m not enjoying it but rather because I’m still stuck in limbo over my role on squadron (not a cadet anymore and not an officer yet either) So I’m currently turning up and doing the paperwork and adjutant duties but I can’t really do much in the way of getting involved in activities, it’s going so slowly at the moment that it’s looking like I won’t be commissioned even in time for remembrance parade (if I even get it that is, apparently they’ve really toughened up on applicants recently).

So that’s all the boring crappyness that’s currently going on with me, but how can I be stressed at the same time? Easy! Work have just paid for me to take a Microsoft certification, the exam is on the 17th of September. So far when I’ve been taking the practise tests I’m usually about 15-20% lower than the 80% passmark (I haven’t even passed one yet!) the exam cost a lot and I really don’t want to let anyone down but I just don’t really seem to be improving much. Hopefully I’ll get better soon.

In more fun news I’ve just bought a Barmah hat! It looks awesome and is really comfortable. Look them up on google images.

Bye for now,
Jon

last Saturday marked 100 days since Madeleine McCann first went missing in Portugal, I was planning on posting something about my disappointment with the media for seeming to get bored with this case and allowing it to drop from the public eye. As it happens some recent developments seem to have reignited their interests, what I will say is that I am disappointed with the Portuguese authorities who seem only partially willing to stick to their own laws. Much of the information gained by the police must be kept secret whist the investigation is still on going, this must seem very frustrating to Madeleine’s parents who naturally will want to be told of all new developments but cannot. This is Portuguese law and I have no quarrel with that, what does upset me though is the fact that even with this law in place the authorities have allowed the rumour to slip that they believe Madeleine may have been killed before being taken from the room. This is a hugely important piece of information and as they are unwilling to reveal more details about it surely more should have been done in the first place to prevent it becoming public knowledge. Still, to anyone who reads this, please please, continue to support the campaign to bring Madeleine home and do not allow yourself to decide guilt or to judge/blame anyone as this is not for us to do and should be left in the hands of the authorities.

In more cheerful news, Saturday was also the day that I joined a new gliding club, Long Mynd/Midlands Gliding club, which is apparently one of the most challenging areas to fly in Europe. I made sure to get up early so that I could arrive by about 8:00 in order to get an early spot on the flying rota (which I did!). It was a very fun day, I got three flights and gained a lot of experience in finding thermals and soaring. Everybody there seems really nice and I expect to go back again quite soon. With a bit of luck it won’t take too long before they trust me enough to let me start flying solo again. Also they have a really good bar with some nice cask ales…mmm…

Finally last night marked the end of an era for me as it was my last night as Instructor Cadet Warrant Officer Moore J #1414 2279 Wrexham Squadron ATC. The reason for this is my 20th Birthday which is on Thursday which will put me over the age limit, it’s not the end of me though as I’ll stay on as a temporary Civilian Instructor whilst I go through the process of trying to get a commission so that I can stay on permanently as an Officer… I’ll let you know how it goes, but so far it’s been slow…

As promised I have returned and brought with me yet another post (aren’t I doing well?) I said in my last post that I would tell you all about what I did last Weekend, so that I will now do.

Last weekend was the Gardening show at the Llangollen Royal international pavilion. Now, I’m not really all that into gardening, although I do prefer mine to be neat and nice to sit in. But the main reason I was in attendance was to do with cadets. The ATC (Airborne Tactical Commandos…. or Air Training Corps, I forget which one) was asked to help by ferrying plants form the stalls to shoppers cars with their wheelbarrows, for doing this we were allowed to collect donations to go towards squadron funds.

Now that was all well and good but being the Best of all youth organizations we decided that we needed to put on a more interesting show for our public. A few carefully placed phone-calls to the right people later and we had a display by the Red Arrows organised… oh sorry Red Barrows! (Like the Red Arrows but a couple of hundred miles per hour slower, no smoke and with wheelbarrows instead of Hawks) The crowds came and at one point we had almost the entire show watching, we even managed to get Charlie Dimmock to sign RED1. Over the weekend there was plenty of time for fun photos and lots of money was raised, we even managed to sell off all of the non performing green wheelbarrows… also I got quite sun-burnt. Some photos here but lots more still to come, I’ll try and get them uploaded if I can (no promises though)Charlie and RED1

The reds in action – see if you can spot me carrying out my supervisory role on the far right.

Pimms o clock.

O.K. So as I mentioned in my last proper post (it’s gone now because of the new blog) I’m going to be writing regularly… and so eight months later, here I am! Posting! I suppose if you’re reading this then you may be wondering what has happened since. Well… I’ll start with the major stuff. When I last wrote I had a Honda Civic called Willis, Willis was sadly killed by a boy racer doing 60Mph round a tight bend,  on a narrow road, in heavy rain, with five passengers…. at night! So I hate that guy now. Luckily he seemed to think that Willis could be saved and offered to pay for the repairs, this meant that when Willis was pronounced dead by my local garage and the insurance companies got involved he had effectively admitted total liability and the whole thing was blamed on and payed for by him! woo! I now have a red 1.6 VW Golf Mk4 called Roland (after the gunslinger.. if you don’t know who this is read more books)

I’ve now finished my second year at Wrexham University, I passed, so now can move on to the third and final year, I’m also currently studying for the Microsoft small business specialist exam which will make me an official server expert, that’s good all round as my work will make more money and my CV will take a healthy dose of Microsoft beefiness also i’ll be Jonathon Moore MCP (cool eh), that’s the best bit as i’m currently the only one in the office without letters after their name.

I’m due to be 20 In a couple of weeks, all going well. hehe. So all you that know me personally, dig deep and “buy me summat gud” (sorry I just couldn’t help myself reeling off some text speak tosh seeing as i’ll not be a teenager soon and will loose the (almost totally unused) right to pronounceate that way.) oo er double brackets.

Next post I’ll tell you all about the weekend I just had (28th 29th July). Bye for now!

First Post!

So here it is, My first post in techno-rss-wordpress-blog format.

Up until now when ever I have updated my Website I copied the current news to the past news page and simply wrote my blog post directly into my homepage. This worked just fine but meant that I could only update my page if I had all of my FTP details with me. Now I simply blog into http://blog.jon-moore.co.uk from anywhere, each post is RSS enabled and my homepage is linked to this feed as is the news page. The homepage displays only my lates post whilst my News page shows the last 5. All other posts are shown on the archive pages of the blog site.

I’ll edit this post later and add more about what I’ve been doing lately :o )
