This week I have been mostly pooing myself over how much work I’ve got to do and how little time I have to do it in. I have a 2,500 word paper due in on Monday and two 3,000 word papers due in on the 14th of April. I’m also pretty sure that there is another assignment that I’ve forgotten about to be handed in pretty soon, but I’ll have to ask people about that when everyone is back next week. Oh yes, and the granddad of all work (my final year dissertation) which is a 20,000 word thesis and a working artefact has to be ready in a few weeks too! I’m a bit panicky about that one as so far my internet phone system is no where near ready to demo and I’ve only written about 2,500 words. But I suppose the sooner that it’s all done the sooner I can get out of here and start working full time.

I can shower again!! woo! The reason that I couldn’t shower before is that we’ve been having a new bathroom fitted, it’s all finished now and looks really nice with a black slate floor and black and white tiles on the walls, we’ve also had a new bath, sink and toilet put in… it all looks really snazzy and modern now. I like. The only down side was that for the last week I’ve been having to shower at work and at the gym and having to clean my teeth in the downstairs bathroom, it’s cold in there.

My plans of moving out seem to have picked up again too, (I may have already mentioned this…. but I can’t remember so I’ll write it anyway) rather than rent an apartment some where new with Gaz, it now looks like I’m going to share his house with him. His mum is going to live with her boyfriend and his brother is moving out too, so his mum is going to have the whole place decorated and then rent it out to the two of us. This will be way better than living in an apartment as we’ll have a driveway with enough room for two cars, a garden so bring on the BBQs and it’ll be a proper two bedroom house so that’s just loads cooler.

Finally just to let you know of my upcoming events, It’s Matt’s 38th birthday sometime soon and it was Karen’s 37th last week so this Saturday they’re having a joint 75th Birthday do at their place. It should be pretty good as I think they’ve got about 100 people going so fingers crossed it should be a good night.  So that’s this Saturday filled and next Saturday is Squadron Dining in night, one of my favourite parts of cadets, I’ve got a new dinner jacket and trousers to go with it which I’ve had properly tailored so they look pretty good, it’s a joint dinner with Berwyn Squadron again so that’ll make it even better as Si and Steve will be there, not sure if Andy is coming back to goto it but you never know. All in all I am WAY busy right now, but hey, maybe that’s a good thing.

See you soon,

Jon

Easter Greetings!

Hello avid readers!

Happy easter! And what an easter it has been!

Friday was really fun. As it was a bank holiday Emma couldn’t attend sqaudron so Gaz and I ran the night, we settled on running a first aid exersize complete with casualty evacuations and people fainting at random. The night was a real success and I think the cadets learnt alot about how to deal with real life situations.

After cadets we went to Gaz’s house to change before meeting up with Si, Emma and Andy in the King’s Mills Pub, it was great to catch up with andy after him being away for a while, he’s home for the week so I think we’re going out at some point in the next few days. After the pub I was taking gaz and andy home when for some reason we decided to go into town! (it was about 1am by now) so we turned around and went back to my house so that I could change my shoes and get something to eat. Once I’d finised off the left over spaghetti we then decided that actually most places wouldn’t let us in by the time we got to town as we’d need to walk in.

So we made pizza and sat in the kitchin talking for about an hour instead. Once that was done we went to take andy home… and we actually got there this time, after that I took gaz home and drove back to mine and went to bed.

For some weird reason I woke up after only 3 hours at 6:30! So all of Saturday I was well tired… not good, in fact saturday was pretty crap all round.

But Sunday… Sunday was AWESOME!

Saw pleanty of relatives in the morning so got my fair share of chocolate eggs :o ) after that it was just a generally excellent day, no perticular reason why… ok, maybe one perticular reason, but I won’t go into that :o P

Right, that’s your lot for now!

Well it’s march so that means dinners with cadets.

Last Saturday was wing dinner 2008 which was held at RAF Valley officers mess, I went along with Si and Emma and had a pretty good time. The meal was really good, a shoulder of lamb in a minty gravy, mmm…

I’ve got a few photos of the night and the day after on my computer so I’ll put those up on here when I get the chance.

Talking of the day after… that was good too! Si, Emma and I went walking in snowdonia, it was only for a couple of hours but it felt good to do a bit of exercise and get some fresh air, we stopped of and had a coffee at a little cafe in Beth Gellert, which was nice.

On to other matters… I got my asterisk server a little nearer to completion this week, I can now use it to make telephone calls over the network so i’m going to be doing some playing around with that for a bit in the next week or so.

House hunting seems to have stalled a bit right now, I think Gaz is quite busy at the moment because he seems to have lost interest recently… ah well, I’m sure it’ll pick up again once what ever has him tied up has passed.

I think thats about it for now… I’ll post those photos just as soon as I’ve picked out the ones I want.

Cheerio,

So I’m house shopping…

well, I say shopping but it’s more like looking at places to rent, also they’re mostly apartments rather than houses. A couple of reasons for this, the main one is that the half of Matt’s house that I was going to rent is taking ages to get sorted out, it’s still an option but i’m keen to move fairly quickly now.

So far I’ve looked round a few different places, there was one that I perticularly liked, I’m thinking of asking for an application form for that one and if I decide to go for it I could be in there within a few weeks! I’ve looked at all of them with Gaz and he’s said that he really likes the one that I like too so that’s good but even though I’m enjoying looking for my first place to live I just can’t help feeling as if something isn’t quite right about it… it’s a bit weird, not sure what it is, maybe it’s just that this is all new to me and it’s nothing.

My final year project has progresses a little, I’ve installed the server and even got a bit of the software running on it. Can’t get asterisk to work yet though… I’ll work on that in Uni this week.

Finally, If anyone does read these posts, why not drop me a comment and let me know! Just click on the title of the blog post you want to comment on and sign up… If you really want you can even subscribe and get notified when I make a new entry… I just thought I’d say that as I don’t really get so many comments and it’d be nice to hear about people reading.

A fairly brief post this time but oh well.

Have fun with stuff,

Jon

Meat Loaf – If God Could Talk

If God could talk
Would He tell you to come back to me?
If God could talk
Would He tell you it’s alright, just leave
And don’t look back at all the memories
The best of times, the mess you made of me
Walk on, if you think it’s gonna make you strong

Why don’t you run away
And find yourself alive
Go on and turn the page
Before your lonely world collides
What’s it gonna take to break the silence
That’s been tearin’ you apart?

If God could talk
Would He part the oceans straight to you
Make mountains move, crumble at your feet to get you through
Another day, another night alone
Step right out into the great unknown tonight
Even God knows, baby, that ain’t right

Why don’t you run away
And find yourself alive
Go on and turn the page
Before your lonely world collides
What’s it gonna take to break the silence
That’s been tearin’ you apart?
If only God could talk

Did you swear to yourself
On the day it was over
That you’d never turn around
And get locked up in another cage?

Did you tear all the pictures
Of us living life together
Did you burn all the mem’ries
That have been made in a fit of rage?

Why don’t you run away
And find yourself alive
Go on and turn the page
Before your lonely world collides
What’s it gonna take to break the silence
That’s been tearin you apart?
If only God could talk
If only God could talk
If only God could talk
If only God could talk

Oooh, would you listen now if God could talk?

yeah… I like that song and the video’s pretty good too, if you wanna know what i’ve been up to or how I’m feeling, check out the blog archive.

Busy, Busy, Busy

Woosh.. so tired!

Yes, that’s right, students do work hard sometimes. At the moment it seems as if its having to be most of the time.

Uni seems to be going ok right now. LOADS of assignments are getting towards their due dates now, also the amount of time left to complete my main project is rapidly seeping away from me. So far I’ve not really done a lot on it since before christmas, it doesn’t help that the labs are in use almost all of the time. I’ve now worked out that the labs are free from 5pm until 9pm most nights, i’m free Tuesday and Wednesday nights so it looks as if I might be in for some long days and late nights for the next three months.

Today, being Wednesday is a working evening, I’m aiming to reformat my server, get ubuntu linux installed aswell as asterisk and possibly even start configuring it.

I’ve decided to start using this blog as a bit of a project log… I’m thinking that this is good for two reasons.

First, It’ll keep all my fans out there up to date with how my studies are going, and second (the main reason) when I come to write the report I can look back at this for dates and information… yes I know that I don’t really have any blog fans, but hey this is the internet, anything could happen.

Don’t worry, I’ll still have space to tell you all about the other useless crap that I’ve been getting up to etc etc.

Right, that’s all for now.

Take it easy,

Jon

New phone

My new phone arrived today! I’ve had my old XDA Exec for around two years now so it was pretty beaten up, couple of scratches on the screen, the metal bit was a bit scraped etc etc. So when I saw the new upcoming Htc Touch dual I got pretty excited, it does everything that my current phone does but it’s soo much smaller and has the touch flo interface (htc call this the iPhone killer).

The dual appeared on the orange website last wednesday and after a quick check around for better deals I placed my order Thursday morning, unfortunatly orange will only deliver to you billing address so I had to ask for a Monday delivery as thats the only time I’d be at home to sign for it. Being Monday evening… the phone is here!!! It looks soo swish, can’t wait to get using it after it’s initial 24hr charge. I’ll stick a video or some photo’s of it at the end of this post.

In my last post I said I’d develope some sort of photo gallery to show off all the pictures I’ve come up with recently. You may have noticed that I have not done this, I make no appologies for this as uni is becoming uber demanding right now with my dissitation taking up a whole truck load of my time.

I’ll get it done in the end.

Anyways that’s about all I can be bothered to write at the moment as I have a cold manflu, so I’m off to drink somethink containing lemon (and possibly gin and an ice cube).

Laterz,

Jon.

p.s appologies for the man with boring voice, but this video shows off the phone quite well.

WOW!! So much has happened since I last blogged! So much in fact that I’m now realising that I’m going to have trouble remembering any of it at all, but I’ll give it a go.

First off then, I’m an MCP, woooo. After my initial failing I looked to the internet for help and found “the good book”, of course you all know which book I refer to (Microsoft 70-290 exam cram) with the lord author by my side I did battle as I rode and passed with a score of 752 (I think… can’t remember exactly), so with this spankingly new qualification under my belt PriceMaurice and I are now Small Business Specialists… which is nice.

If anyone checks this website regularly they may have noticed that It has been down a couple of times this week, this is due to the fact that I’ve been transferring it to our new dedicated server This gives me complete control over the web server, it also meant I was without email for about four days as the internet would have no idea where my email server lived, chances are if anyone sent me anything it’s just been lost and they’ve not even had a failure report back informing them of my disconnectedness.

In uni this week I chose my final year project, I’m going to develop some sort of voice over IP telephone system using an open source server by the name of Asterisk, I’ve not got much idea of how it works so it’s sure to be a steep learning curve, should be fun!

Ummmm… what else… In work this week I disinfected the most spyware ridden PC I have ever seen! My god, it was so full of nasty bugs that it could practically crawl away, this gave me a great opportunity to learn all about Hijackthis, a great spyware cleaning program that takes quite a bit of knowledge to use, and I quite enjoyed it.

In cadets on Friday I was teaching my class about rocket propultion, as we reached the section about solid fuel rockets I asked the class for an example of a common solid fuel rocket that would be seen more and more in shops as the end of the month came closer. One bright young man raised his hand, when I asked him what his answer was he proudly told me “Pumpkins, Mr Moore!” I just couldn’t help laughing. Keep up the studying Jones, Only a month until the exams. I’m sure you’ll manage them!

Oh and someone sent me this video, I thought it was bloody awesome. So I hope you enjoy it too!

Bye for now,

Jon.

Back in Uni!

I’m BAAAAACCCKKKK!! Yes, that’s right, I have returned for my third (and hopefully final) year of university. Unfortunately I’m yet to choose a final year project, which is worth about one third of my overall marks for this year, so If any one has any good ideas about computer network related stuff that I could design, build and document that will take about 400 hours to finish then drop me a comment and I’ll take a look. Ideally I’d like it to be something to do with Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 but I’m open to suggestions.

I’ve had all of the Ballooning photos now, but I think that there are just too many to show here in the Blog section of my website so I’ve decided to build a gallery to which I shall upload all of my photos of interest. I’ve also recently added a link on the left of the page which will take you to the blog site.

One final thing, to all of you who know my hotmail address, I’m now on facebook so come and find me!

oh, damn.

So I failed my Microsoft certif exam, many may say it’s because I didn’t know enough about the subject. They are right.

But I blame my lack of knowledge on measureup.com, I was managing to get consistent passes every time I took their exams on the Internet, I felt totally confident, I went into the exam feeling relaxed and good.

As soon as the exam started I knew I was in trouble, the questions on the exam where nothing like the ones on measure up and also nothing like the content in my revision book. I did the best I could and came away with a score of 670 (pass mark being 700) I was gutted, but tomorrow is another day and also the day I book my resit, I’m planning on it being in the next two weeks. During that time I will be looking for extra information on the content of the exam, if anyone knows some please, please, please post a comment!

In other news, MY WEBSITE WORKS! When I designed this website it was meant to be as optimised for search engines as possible. This week I had an email from “Jon Moore”, a nice chap from the US who found me on the Internet. I was really pleased to hear from him (Jon, If you’re reading this now, thanks for getting in touch and I hope you enjoy the site.)

I’ve still not had all of the balloon photos, but I’ll post them as soon as I get them.
