Graduation

I am now a graduate!

YES! That’s right, on Thursday I donned mortar board and gown and was officially given the title Bachelor of Science. It was great getting to see all of the chaps from Uni again and quite strange being back in the same hall in which I was welcomed three years previously.Jon the Graduate

I seemed to spend quite a lot of money too; I’ve ordered a commemorative T-shirt along with a DVD of the ceremony and a whole load of professional photos.

Talking of professional photos, the ones from my camera are in the gallery now so check ‘em out!

The day was great! We were kitted out with our gowns before being seated in the William Aston Hall for the main ceremony, after a few speeches the University head presented an honorary fellowship… to Michal Owen! Yeah! The footballer was at my graduation! With that over our names were read out and we shook hands with the main man and received a commemorative coin for the trouble.

After the ceremony there was a reception in the Edward Llewin building library where we mingled with old classmates and took many thousands of Gigabytes of photos before heading to the 1884 restaurant for a small meal and champagne and then home.

All in all three years and £15,000 well spent I would say, I had soo much fun getting my degree, the experience has certainly changed me and was one of the best times of my life, I’ll never forget those hallowed halls.

The server move went well and I had no unexpected problems by the way.

Don’t forget to check out the photos,

Jon

Last week Sarah and I took a week out from our normal lives and shuffled off to Sheffield to visit a few of Sarah’s friends from uni. All things being said it was a jolly good week, mostly comprising of sleeping in late, exploring and shopping in the afternoon and then going out at night.

One of my favourite nights of the week was our games night, we bought a few bottles from the local co-op, ordered ourselfs some top quality food from Dominoes and broke out the board games, atmosfear (or nightmare for all you across the pond) had to be the best of the lot, it was made substantially better by the fact that everyone had been enjoying a few drinks too. Unfortunately on this occasion we didn’t manage to beat the gatekeeper and remain “maggots” (his words not mine).

Sarah, having lived in Sheffield for a couple of years whilst studying, had a great local knowledge of good places to go out. The best in my opinion was Bia Hoi (google it if you want to know more), a great cocktail bar that had all sorts of amazing looking drinks, I particularly liked the “oriental express”, a coffee flavoured cocktail with cream floating on the surface.

There are plenty of pictures that I’ll soon upload to the gallery, but if you can’t wait and know me personally then check out my facebook profile for a few.

Now, I wouldn’t normally be blogging at this time of day as I’m usually in work but today I’m doing a server migration for a client and happen to have a few minutes to spare whilst the installation continues, the office has been preparing for this for quite a long time and I must admit that the task at hand is rather daunting, but I’m pretty confident and will keep you informed of the results. For anyone who’s interested I’m using Jeff Middleton’s Swing Migration method.

I’ve got quite a busy weekend ahead of me, a couple of birthdays loom and next week is my graduation so I’m sure I’ll have plenty of blogging material to keep me busy writing. I’ll probably upload some pictures from those as well.

That’s all for now, keep checking the gallery for new pictures and come back soon to look for the latest update.

London

Wow I can’t believe it’s the 8th of September already, summer seems to have come and gone soo fast!

I also can’t believe that I’ve gone this long without writing about my short holiday in London. To be brief, it was amazing! (now in more length) I had such a great time, travelling down in the car was not half as bad as I was expecting it to be, in fact the 3.5 hour drive was pretty fun. We did a lot of in car singing to the Wicked soundtrack and then moved on to the War of the Worlds album once that was finished. We actually left a little bit later than we had planned to but this didn’t make too much of a difference to our plans, we stopped off for a coffee and something to eat on the way down and eventually arrived at the hotel around 5:30.

Once we were all booked in and unpacked we just about had time to get changed before rushing out to see Wicked the musical. Wicked was most definitely one of the highlights of the trip, the show was amazing and the cast, set and songs where truly awesome, I like it so much that I’m really keen on going to see it again at sometime. After the show we waited around the stage door and got chance to meet a few of the cast and has some photos taken with them and got some autographs (I’ve put a few of the pictures up on the gallery, the rest will be along soon). We then grabbed a sandwich in the tube station before heading back to the hotel. That was Thursday pretty much over. Our room was awesome by the way :D

Friday was a bit less manic, we got up quite late and then just went shopping for the day. Once we were bored of that Sarah suggested a trip to the park and the palace which were both rather nice. We chilled out for a couple of hours in the room before heading to wagamamas (simple the best place to eat ever!) for dinner, after that we caught the tube back to the city centre and had a ride on the London eye, I’ve been on it a couple of times before but never at night. It was well worth it, the views of the city lit up were quite breath taking.

Saturday was just as busy as Thursday, after another sightly late morning we headed to pizza hut for lunch before catching the matinee of “The sound of Music” again I was very impressed by the set and thougherly enjoyed the show, although it wasn’t a patch on Wicked. We picked up the car and headed home after that, arriving back on the Wirral at around 11ish that night.

All in all I had a really good time, it was well worth the money. Everyone should see Wicked, it really is one of the best things in the world. Sarah and I both took loads of pictures and whilst a few are already up, I’ll make sure the rest are in the gallery within a couple of days.

So the last couple of weeks have been EPIC and I’m sure there’s more goodness to come!

Last Friday was Sarah’s 21st, I had such an amazing night, it was soo much fun. We all met up at Sarah’s house and then got a lift with her Dad and Aunt to the restaurant, gusto’s in Heswall for an amazing meal and champagne. After that we all had a quick drink in terrace C before catching the limo (yeah a limo!!!) across to Liverpool. It was a really good night, I really really enjoyed myself and I’m pretty sure Sarah had a good time too, which is the most important thing, what with it being her Birthday. There are loads of photos which I’ll put up in the gallery once I’ve got them, but for now they’re on facebook.

Talking of Birthdays, mine is on Saturday woo! I’ll be 21, seems old. To celebrate we’re going out to a Chinese restaurant and then a night in Wrexham, there are about ten people coming including Sarah and I so it should be a really good night. Also Sarah and I decided to go to London for a few days to do a bit of shopping and to see Wicked the musical, I booked that yesterday and am now WAYY excited about it, it’ll be the first time that I’ve been on any sort of holiday since I started Uni… so about four years! It’s not really a huge holiday, but we’ve also decided to do our Christmas shopping in New York this year which is a bit more like a real holiday.

Decorating then… anyone who’s been here before might have noticed that I’ve recently done a bit of a redesign of Jon-Moore.co.uk It’s only a few minor changes but I think they really make it look a lot better, tell me what you think, leave me a comment on the blog site.

Promise that I’ll put up the photos of both Birthday night’s out soon and I’m sure there’ll be plenty from London to go with them.

See you Soon!

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of 2008;

Wear Sunscreen.

If I could offer you only one tip for the future,
sunscreen would be it.
The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists,
where as the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience
I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth… oh never mind,
you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they’ve faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself
and recall in a way you can’t grasp now, how much possibility lay before you
and how fabulous you really looked,
you are not as fat as you imagine.

Don’t worry about the future, or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum.
The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind, the kind that blind side you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing everyday that scares you.

Sing.

Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts,
don’t put up with people who are reckless with yours.

Floss.

Don’t waste your time on jealousy, sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes you’re behind,
the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults,
if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.
Stretch.

Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your life,
the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22
what they wanted to do with their lives,
some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don’t.

Get plenty of calcium.

Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children, maybe you won’t,
Maybe you’ll divorce at 40,
Maybe you’ll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary
What ever you do, don’t congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either
Your choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s.

Enjoy your body, use it every way you can, don’t be afraid of it,
or what other people think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own
Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.

Do not read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for good.

Be nice to your siblings, they are the best link to your past
and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on.
Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get,
the more you need the people you knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard,
Live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander,
you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize that when you were young
prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund,
Maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.

Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you’re 40, it will look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it.
Advice is a form of nostalgia,
dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off,
painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

…But trust me on the sunscreen.

Hurray!

Well I got my degree classification results yesterday, I got a 2:1! I’m really pleased and work bought me a cake so that was excellent! Also congratulations to everyone else who passed their degree this week.

Well apart from that, there isn’t really all that much news to speak of… I bought a new suit last week so I’ve been trialling that out in work for the last couple of days, I’ll put a photo at the end of this post of me just after a meeting with some clients, let me know what you think.

I’ve had a bit of a discovery recently, It seems more people read my blog than I thought! Me thinking that no one really read it but I now know of at least TWO people who have had a browse, so a cause for celebration there too! I won’t name anyone as I think that it would be rather rude of me to publish a list of people that have visited. Seems me rambling on about what I’ve been doing isn’t quite as boring as I imagined. Haha.

With me now due a pay rise from work I’ve started looking into a single apartment in which to live rather than having to share as I would have done before, I’ll let you know how it goes.

Ummmm… I think that’s about all that has happened recently.

See you soon,

It has to be said… It’s the most comfortable thing in the world ever! I had to nip out to post a letter this afternoon so I got in the car and went in my slippers. It was so good I’m thinking of leaving a pair in the car just for driving! …well, maybe not.

If you want to take a look, I’ve made some improvements to the user interface on the gallery, It should be a bit easier to use now. I’m going to put up some photos of the gardening show in Llangollen that I went to with the cadets over the weekend in the next few days so that’ll be a good test.

I can tell that I’m rambling a bit now, that’s probably because tomorrow is the day when the provisional module results come out for my degree, that means I’ll know (almost for certain) what classification I’ve got. WAY SCARY! So this is probably the blog post that is going to be on the front page for the shortest amount of time ever as Ill be sure to post up my results at some point tomorrow (unless I do really badly, then I’ll just pretend like it didn’t happen)

Sleep well, I’m sure I won’t.

fun times

So I went into town for a night out on Saturday, Started out as just a random night out that was going to be with Katie and Sophie from cadets but ended up meeting loads of ppl.

Anyway we went to a few different places, I drank rather too much and spent a lot more than I should have. But it was a really good night, in fact I don’t think I’ve had such a good night out for a long time. As the night went on I and everybody split up into smaller groups I ended up with soph, katie and gaz in Liquid. Had a great time there, music was pretty good too.

Ended up leaving at about 1:30 and heading for a taxi, katie bit gaz… no idea why, was funny as tho. Got in at about 2:30 and stayed in bed until about 1 in the afternoon the next day… lazy me eh?

Anyways, we took a few photos nd I’ve put them up in the gallery if you fancy a look. That’s all for now.

Peace,

Jon

Finishing Stuff

Finishing stuff, I’ve done a lot of that lately.

First off, most excitingly, I’ve finished Uni! Woo! As long as I’ve passed everything the only time I’ll ever have to go back to NEWI is for my graduation. Feels soo good to be done. My research on speech recognition over voice over internet protocol went well and I ended up with an enterprise class phone system which I’m now able to implement into the telephone system in the office… I’ll let you know how it goes.

Well I think it’s been around a year since I first announced that I was going to be adding a photo gallery to the site, but that’s now finished too! It’s a bit rough around the edges at the moment, and there aren’t really all that many photos up yet… but I’ll work on that :o )

It’s been quite a long time since my last post here but really not all that much has happened, I’ve been far too busy with all of my Uni work to really do many interesting things but that’s bound to change over the summer. One thing that has changed is that I decided to buy a new piano… anyone that knows me well will know that I’m a little prone to impulse buys. I think this was one of them, saying that, I’ve found that even after not playing for so long, I think I’ve picked it up again quite well and am now approaching my previous standard (which wasn’t really all that good but oh well)

So with finishing Uni I’ve now started full time in PriceMaurice, this is how I plan it to stay, at least for now anyway. I miss my friends from uni as they’ve all gone home now, but we’ve all decided to make sure we stay in touch and meet up regularly, I hope we manage it. We’ve had some great times together in the last three years.

Anywhoo, feel free to check out the gallery and leave me a comment on the blog site to tell me what you think.

This week I have been mostly pooing myself over how much work I’ve got to do and how little time I have to do it in. I have a 2,500 word paper due in on Monday and two 3,000 word papers due in on the 14th of April. I’m also pretty sure that there is another assignment that I’ve forgotten about to be handed in pretty soon, but I’ll have to ask people about that when everyone is back next week. Oh yes, and the granddad of all work (my final year dissertation) which is a 20,000 word thesis and a working artefact has to be ready in a few weeks too! I’m a bit panicky about that one as so far my internet phone system is no where near ready to demo and I’ve only written about 2,500 words. But I suppose the sooner that it’s all done the sooner I can get out of here and start working full time.

I can shower again!! woo! The reason that I couldn’t shower before is that we’ve been having a new bathroom fitted, it’s all finished now and looks really nice with a black slate floor and black and white tiles on the walls, we’ve also had a new bath, sink and toilet put in… it all looks really snazzy and modern now. I like. The only down side was that for the last week I’ve been having to shower at work and at the gym and having to clean my teeth in the downstairs bathroom, it’s cold in there.

My plans of moving out seem to have picked up again too, (I may have already mentioned this…. but I can’t remember so I’ll write it anyway) rather than rent an apartment some where new with Gaz, it now looks like I’m going to share his house with him. His mum is going to live with her boyfriend and his brother is moving out too, so his mum is going to have the whole place decorated and then rent it out to the two of us. This will be way better than living in an apartment as we’ll have a driveway with enough room for two cars, a garden so bring on the BBQs and it’ll be a proper two bedroom house so that’s just loads cooler.

Finally just to let you know of my upcoming events, It’s Matt’s 38th birthday sometime soon and it was Karen’s 37th last week so this Saturday they’re having a joint 75th Birthday do at their place. It should be pretty good as I think they’ve got about 100 people going so fingers crossed it should be a good night.  So that’s this Saturday filled and next Saturday is Squadron Dining in night, one of my favourite parts of cadets, I’ve got a new dinner jacket and trousers to go with it which I’ve had properly tailored so they look pretty good, it’s a joint dinner with Berwyn Squadron again so that’ll make it even better as Si and Steve will be there, not sure if Andy is coming back to goto it but you never know. All in all I am WAY busy right now, but hey, maybe that’s a good thing.

See you soon,

Jon
